The Lawton Crafts, Arts, and Hobby Association was charted in January 1974 with approximately 30 members. The group had been meeting for several weeks after holding a small craft show in October 1973 at the National Guard Armory. By-laws were established and the Association incorporated as a non-profit organization on the 5th day of August 1974. Board members who petitioned for incorporation and signed the final document were: Robert Geyer, Muriel Geyer, Lionel C. “Bud” Waugh and Joy Waugh. The Association was established with a primary goal to create further interest in crafts, arts and hobbies in the local and surrounding area.
The Lawton Crafts, Arts and Hobby Association have conducted a fall craft show every year since the initial show in 1973. In 1978, the craft show was officially named “Craft Harvest” as it is still known today. Early shows were held in the National Guard Armory until the request by exhibit in two buildings (the coliseum and the Annex) starting in 1991. Craft Harvest was moved to the Expo Building at the Fairgrounds in 2000 in order to have more space and to move the show back into one building.
By being a non-profit organization, we are able to participate in other areas within the community and surrounding area. We help sponsor groups with money, crafts, food, clothing, and more over the years. These organizations are: Giddy-Up-Go, The Greiner School for the Handicapped, Center for Creative Living, and Lawton Food Bank.
Our organization has open membership and welcomes anyone to join us in the Lawton Crafts, Arts, and Hobbies Association. We meet on the third Monday of each month at 7:30 pm at the Center for Creative Living, 3501 SW Dr Elsie Hamm Drive, Lawton, OK.
